David Stewart
David is a multiple award-winning, Emmy nominated documentary and factual drama director. He’s worked for some of the world’s leading broadcasters and film companies including BBC, ITV, Discovery, Smithsonian, France 2, Sky and Universal Pictures. In the 90s he was part of the newly created Youth Department at the BBC which revolutionised television. He was series director on Rough Guide to the World and Reportage. Stewart went from there to work as a director on another ground-breaking series, The Late Show. He continued making arts documentaries for the BBC flagship strand, Omnibus. Winning a gold award at the New York Film Festival for Shining in the Dark, his documentary about the world’s most successful author, Stephen King. In 2002, David was Emmy nominated for his work on The Human Face with John Cleese, a BBC/Discovery co-production and also directed an award-winning series on human origins with Dr Alice Roberts. In 2017 he made 89, a feature documentary about Arsenal’s unprecedented title winning season, for Universal Pictures and is currently in production on another sports documentary for Sky’s new documentary channel.
