Jane Elliot
Jane worked with Sir Kenneth MacMillan as a Benesh Notator on Sea of Troubles at its creation in 1988 and staged it for Scottish Ballet the following year. Jane continued to work with MacMillan on Winter Dreams with The Royal Ballet and assisted in the BBC film. In 1992 started the process of auditioning and then rehearsing MacMillan’s dance sequences for Carousel, directed by Nicholas Hytner, at the National Theatre. She staged the dance in New York at The Lincoln Centre Theatre and further for the US Nationwide tour and then in Japan firstly in Tokyo at the Imperial Theatre then in Osaka and Nagoya. More recently taught sections of the ‘Ballet’ to principal dancers of the Royal Ballet for Galas. Ivan Putrov asked her to revive a trio of MacMillan’s Images of Love from 1964 for his Gala at London’s Coliseum. Jane has taught and staged Ashton’s La Fille Mal Gardée many times. Jane was Senior Classical teacher at The Hammond in Chester for nineteen years, where she choreographed many works and staged La Bayadere, Peter Wright’s Swan Lake, Act 3 and full-length Giselle with the kind loan of the ROH’s Macfarlane costumes. She had worked with him to revive Giselle in Munich. Jane left in Hammond in 2018 to be able to pursue her freelance career. She first worked with YDP re-mounting Sea of Troubles and then MacMillan’s Playground. Most recently worked with the Ballet company in Perm, Russia on Winter Dreams. Jane has been delighted to return to rehearsals of Sea of Troubles with YDP.
